The Realities of May Calving

In 2021, Long Pines Land and Livestock decided to move its 2022 calving season to May and to expose cows for only 30 days. This compares to previous years of calving mostly in April (some years as early as mid-March) for 45 to 60 days.

Being a Mom at Long Pines

To be a broodmare at Long Pines has a steep price of entry. “They have to ride very well, and not just in the arena, they've got to be decent on the ranch, too. I don't want broodmares that throw poor temperaments. Their foals have to have a strong structure for the long-term. They’ve got to be able to hold up,” says Long Pines owner Deb Brown.
