Two major spring storms hit a week apart, bringing much needed relief from the drought while making it difficult to feed and care for cattle.

Moving pairs to summer pasture through plentiful grass reminded us of the importance of rangeland management.
Sterling kicked off a great season of ranch bronc riding, winning the Miles City Bucking Horse Sale Open then the Black Hills Roundup. He attributed his skill from a few naughty little horses when he was a kid. The Long Pines horses don't give him much practice anymore - by design!
August 2022
This was the first summer without Bettin Yer Smart. The roan filly is the last one we got out of him. We also had 4 fillies from a great local stallion, AJ Oak Rocker, and we're excited for the results of this outcross. Deb was pleased with the results so far.
Katie and Sterling got hitched.
October 2022
Timely moisture made for a good hay crop. After a little tutoring by Sterling, Katie became a major part of his crew.
November 2022
Deb spent time contemplating where to go with the Long Pines horse program, building on the incredible cow horse champion genetics.
December 2022
Winter Storm Diaz hit hard, with more than 3 days of blizzard. And so another season goes and a new arrives.
