In 2000, when National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Open World Champion and million-dollar producer Bet Yer Blue Boons was inducted into the NCHA Hall of Fame, her owner and trainer Hall of Famer Lindy Burch ponied her into Will Rogers Coliseum on the mare’s daughter, Bet Yer Boons (Peptoboonsmal x Bet Yer Blue Boons).
Bet Yer Boons was a competitor that night.
It was only one of a string of competitions that would net the 1997 red roan mare $73,281 in lifetime earnings, according to EquiStat, and led to a distinguished career as a champion producer. Among her winning offspring is the stallion, Bettin Yer Smart, who is a Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Hackamore Champion and NRCHA Hackamore World Reserve Champion. Owned by Long Pines Land and Livestock, this son of Bet Yer Boons is now standing to outside mares at the Colorado State University Equine Reproductive Lab.
Bettin Yer Smart boasts winnings in all NRCHA divisions (snaffle, hackamore, two-rein and bridle) and has qualified for the World Show in all but snaffle. He is one of an honored few named NRCHA Supreme Working Cow Horse.
A product of the Oxbow Ranch while under the direction of Lindy Burch, Bet Yer Boons comes from a long line of champions. Her sire is Peptoboonsmal. Her dam is the great Bet Yer Blue Boons, one of 24 performers out of this record-making mare, which is certainly testimony to the dominance of her winning genetics. Her granddam, on both sides, is Royal Blue Boon.
Bet Yer Boons chalked up her own impressive list of titles in cutting:
As a broodmare, Bet Yer Boons continued to honor her heritage. She produced 17 AQHA foals of which an incredible 13 are money earners with a total of $539,675 (November 2020 QData).
Little Red Bet (Smart Little Lena x Bet Yer Boons) was a standout cutting horse but really made her mark as a dam, with offspring with earnings in excess of $220,000. She is a full sibling to Bettin Yer Smart. (Photo source: http://www.wvleiloes.com.br)
