"Gator" is a 2012 Bay Mare

Gator earned her keep as a ranch horse before joining our brood mares! She spent an entire summer as one of Sterling's mounts while he worked in the Montana/Wyoming mountains. She pretty much saw it all and did it all - from doctoring yearlings, maneuvering through tough terrain and even packing fenceposts. Plus, we’ve fully nominated her in the AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge.

Her dam is one of our favorites – Spark Plug Cat, a daughter of the legendary stallion Shining Spark (NRCHA & NRHA $1 million sire). Her dam is by Taris Catalyst (1983 World Champion Open Jr. Cutting; NCHA LTE $181,373). “Cat” was a broodmare until entering the show ring in 2007 where she proved herself quickly: SDRCHA Open Two Rein and CCQHA Open Ranch Horse Champion, plus ranked in the 2007 NRCHA National Standings with limited showing.

Gator is sired by Sir Fred Von Freckle (deceased). Fred was a son of the great Freckles Playboy and out of Rosalee Lena (offspring earnings in excess of $59,000) by Doc O’Lena. Fred was a proven cutting, reining and cow horse who qualified for the AQHA World Show Qualifier (2002-Open Sr. Working Cow Horse), earned an AQHA Open ROM, 4th place winner at the 1997 NCHA Fort Worth Futurity (Limited Open Division) and 2003 Black Hills Stock Show Open Ranch Horse Champion. His show career ended early due to injury yet he was a good ranch horse for several years.
