Smokin The Jay made a major mark in reined cow horse events during his few months of competition, winning two championships. He is already a money earner in reined cow horse, versatility, and AQHA Ranching Heritage, shown by 15-year-old Dallie Lawrence and Justin Lawrence.
His near-perfect conformation is just the beginning. Be sure to check out his winnings highlights below. He is a huge stopper, does beautiful reining maneuvers, and has plenty of control plus speed. “Amos” has all the skills for an awesome versatility, cow, or rope (breakaway, heel and tie-down) horse. With just a bit more experience, he will be a great novice or youth horse, too.
On top of all that, he’s well-mannered and travel seasoned. Amos has always been a willing learner. As with all Long Pines horses he’s proven himself on the ranch, too. He’s gathered in big pastures, worked cattle in pens, doctored in the pasture, and done his share in the branding pen.
This classy, athletic gelding is by Long Pines' NRCHA champion, Bettin Yer Smart, out of Sterling’s high school cutting mare Smokin Hickory Girl. Out of our first Bettin Yer Smart foal crop, he quickly showed us the value of this line. Smokin The Jay's pedigree is literally the “Who’s Who” of cow horses: Smart Little Lena, Peptoboonsmal, Freckles Playboy, Peppy San Badger, Doc's Hickory and Doc O’Lena.
AQHA Ranching Heritage and SDRCHA eligible.
Bettin Yer Smart foals born in 2019 and beyond are NRCHA Stallion Stakes eligible. Horses by Bettin Yer Smart and Judgemental are eligible for AQHA Ranchers Heritage and SDRCHA Stallion Stakes.
